Some firsts

Miles took his first bottle the other day. Frank was stoked to be able to feed him. I guess I hadn't really thought about it being such a big deal since I feed him all the time. But it was great to see them bond. Now I'll be feeding and pumping...how is this a good thing!? :-)
I was reading Miles some fashion tips from the pages of the latest Playboy. Hey, if my boy's going to learn about what belt to wear with what type of outfit, it may as well be coming from me!
Not really a first, but the guys were watching college football this morning and while UNC had already beat Rutgers earlier in the week, Miles was still showing his school spirit! Football on the couch is the best! It'll be even cooler when he can eat sammies with us!

The Life and Times of Miles B.

Miles changes every day! It's so cool to watch him. Especially when he watches you. He's seriously NOT fitting in 0-3 month onsies anymore. Hey...at least I got a week and half's wear out of them!
MY BOYSWe hung out in the backyard a few days ago. It was beautiful and warm and Miles wanted to wear his new bee watch outside the house. You're all jealous you don't have fine wrist jewelry to match!
Miles LOVES to sleep with his arms above his head...on his dad.
...or my boob!
He rarely makes it through a feeding without falling asleep. It's a challenge in the middle of the night. We usually divide feedings up with a diaper change to keep it interesting.

Grammy and Miles

Grammy's here helping out with Miles for a few weeks. It's been a huge help having her around. But I think Miles is wearing her out!
Can we trust this lady to babysit again? :-)

Of course we can! Mom watched Miles last night for a couple of hours so Frank and I could have date night! He did well, apparently four ounces of milk isn't enough to leave for one feeding though...we have a big boy on our hands!

More pictures of Miles

The Birth of Miles

After a couple days of consistant, close contractions and a "send home" from the hospital early Monday morning becaue I hadn't progressed past three centimeters, we returned Monday evening to find I had gone from a three to an eight in about 12 hours. My water just hadn't broken. I needed to get him out! My midwife was not on call...boo! But luckily my OB doc was and she does water births...so I asked her to break my water, which she did around 9:30 p.m. I immediately returned to the tub...MUCH nicer on the labor pains! The urge to push came rather quickly (at least it seems so to me, one with no experience in the art of childbirth!) and the nurse told me to push if I felt a strong enough urge to. I think she was being nice, thinking it wouldn't happen as quickly as it did. I pushed a while and at one point thought "this is coming, that one felt very different." I reached down and actually felt his head! Told the nurse to get the doctor and had to actually hold in a couple pushes until she got all her "stuff" ready.
Miles Benjamin Hill was born on Monday, September 1, 2008 at 10:50 p.m. He weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs. 12 oz. and was 21" long.
I'm very blessed and thankful that I was able to deliver him in the water with no drug intervention, just the way I'd hoped. When we went to the hospital the first time, there were no midwives from my office on call and the on call doctor did not do water births. Miles knew to wait for the right moment!

We spent that night and the next at St. Joseph Medical Center and have been home enjoying each other. I will write more later, but wanted to get some pictures up of our little man.
